A story written into History

There is the beginning to a story written into History.

There is Gallois de Fougières, the first "gendarme" fallen on the battlefield of Azincourt on the 25th of October 1415.

There is the gendarmerie captain Georges BENOIT-GUYOT, who was fascinated by history and, in 1934, discovered a manuscript from the 15th century that specifies where Gallois de Fougières was laid to rest : (Loosely translated from Old French) « At the end, by the great door, lie all in one grave the Lord of the Liergue d'Auvergne, Lord Jehan des Quesnes, the Galet de Fouchières, provost of the marshals, and the young Hollandes, son of the baillif of Rouen. »

This document of the 15th century, a true burial certificate, was used by captain BENOIT-GUYOD as an official report. On the 12th of september 1936 in the abbey of Auchy-lès-Hesdin, captain BENOIT-GUYOT, along wih sixteen other witnesses, attended the diggings and subsequent discovery of the bones of the four knights. The remains of Gallois de Fougières were found by a skeleton of small stature, that of young Hollandes. The remains of Gallois de Fougières were transfered to the crypt of the national monument to the glory of the Gendarmerie in Versailles... a story written into History...

The gendarmerie of the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais entered a partnership with the Medieval Historical Center of Azincourt for the commemoration of the battle of Azincourt. We wished to give a rather particular dimension to this commemoration and, through a series of events, draw a parallel between the Middle Ages and the contemporary Gendarmerie. Our goals are ambitious but we found people who are particularly interested and, most especially, lively with communicative enthusiasm.

What would a reenactment be without Gallois de Fougières among us ? What would Gallois de Fougières be without his companion-in-arms, Jehan de Quesnes ? These two knights, dead on the battlefield of Azincourt and buried in the abbey of Auchy-les-Hesdin for over 500 years ?

It's the gendarme Aymeric SAVARY and reservist deputy gendarme Kristian BOULINGUEZ who will play the parts of Gallois de Fougières and Jehan de Quesnes.
These gendarmes of 2014 are going to wear armour, crafted identical to that of their predecessors, to make us relive this battle and delve us into our own history... a story written into History...
